Contractor Verification & Safety

We created the TradeCrews verification program to help homeowners quickly identify contractors who have provided evidence of professional legitimacy. This page explains what “Verified” means, what we check, and how you can stay safe when hiring.

What the Verified Badge Means

TradeCrews Verified Badge A contractor displaying the Verified badge has supplied documentation showing they hold (when applicable) an active trade license and current general liability (and/or workers’ compensation) insurance. Our team (or automated verification partners) reviews these documents for authenticity and expiration dates.

Staying Safe as a Homeowner

  1. Request and retain a copy of the contractor’s insurance certificate for your records.
  2. Confirm license status with your state or local licensing portal when applicable.
  3. Use written agreements detailing scope, payment schedule, and warranty terms.
  4. Never pay 100% up front; structure progress-based or milestone payments.
  5. Document project progress with photos and messages inside TradeCrews.
  6. Coverage or licensure could lapse after verification; always ask for current proof before signing.
  7. Use judgment. Combine the badge with reviews, references, and direct conversations.

For Contractors: How to Get Verified

  1. Sign up / sign in as a contractor.
  2. Visit your dashboard and look for the “Verification” or “Get Verified” prompt.
  3. Upload requested documents (license & insurance PDFs or clear photos).
  4. Our system reviews and flags any mismatches or missing data.
  5. Once approved, the badge appears on your profile and project interactions.

We may periodically request updated copies to maintain trust and compliance.

Important Notes

  • Not an Endorsement: Verification confirms submitted evidence; it is not a guarantee of workmanship quality.
  • Jurisdiction Variance: Not all trades or regions require licensing. “Verified” may reflect insurance only in such cases.
